Cupping is high on my list as part of my wellness program. I typically have acupuncture and cupping done together but when I am short on time and just need some relief from sore muscles, I will have a quick cupping session done to get me back on the road to recovery.
Cupping isn’t just for athletes, most all of us suffer from sore muscles, back pain or some other disharmony and cupping can help with multiple issues.
When I’ve had an intense training session, I try to have cupping done the next day to help my muscles recover faster so I can continue to train at peak performance. The difference after having cupping is tremendous, my muscles feel relaxed and any DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) I was experiencing is gone.
Susan Patterson with Natural Living Ideas wrote an article “9 Reasons Everyone Should Try Cupping Therapy” in the piece she wrote:
‘Cupping targets soft tissue with pressure applied to pain points and areas of swelling. This helps to increase blood flow and give the tissues important nutrients and oxygen. It’s believed to help release tissues deep within the body, relax tense muscles and ease stiffness that’s often associated with neck and back pain, migraines and rheumatism.’
But the best thing is cupping isn’t just for sore muscles!
"This treatment is also valuable for the lungs and can clear congestion from a common cold or help to control a person’s asthma. In fact, respiratory conditions are one of the most common maladies that cupping is used to relieve.
Cupping’s detoxifying effect on skin and circulatory system is also significant, with a visible improvement in skin color after three to five treatments. Cupping removes toxins and improves blood flow through the veins and arteries. Especially useful for athletes is cupping’s potential to relieve muscle spasms.
Cupping also affects the digestive system. A few benefits include improved metabolism, relief from constipation, a healthy appetite, and stronger digestion.
